Pablo Piccasso had been influenced by Paul Zezanne's theory of art which is based on seeing the world and part of it as an object and therefore should be treated accordingly...
In most Africa traditional sculpture, the head of the figure is accentuated, being treated as a quarter of the whole figure because of the belief and the truth that the head is the seat of intelligence...

THE INFLUENCE OF EUROPEAN ART IN AFRICA
The Africa traditional art was mainly influenced by the religious beliefs before the coming of Europeans to Africa. In the beginning, when they came and saw the artworks, they styled the works heathenism and some were taken abroad to encourage a campaign against heathenism. Missionaries were, therefore, sent to several parts of Africa to preach against paganism and in the process, they destroyed some of the works while others were taken abroad. They established colonial governments and art curriculum was introduced.
Drawing and Painting were taught in the schools and although the traditional artists were still working on one side, the European art syllabus was growing in the school...
.. Those students, apart from learning the general principles of Art, took courses in painting in oil, and sculpture in cement, which were not common materials used in Africa. On arrival at their different countries, they started to impart the knowledge they gained in western art schools to their students. In this way western art began its influence on Africa art.
